Berlin 10 August : The famous Cologne cathedral is now dark to conserve electricity as Germany struggles with an energy supply crisis and rising prices. The city of ancient times located on the Rhine is shutting off the lights in its numerous landmarks The most well-known of which is the cathedral beginning at 11 p.m.every night DPA news agency quoted officials in Cologne as saying.
The time for switching off will be 10 p.m.when the fall season is set to set in.
Usually the famed Gothic cathedral is lit up all night.
The city’s officials said the decision was prompted by the conflict in Ukraine as well as the sanctions put in place by Germany on Russian exports of coal and oil.
