Birmingham 8 August : Wicket-keeper and left-handed bat Yastika Bhatia was on Sunday named as the replacement for concussion for Taniyaa Bhatia in the gold medal match of 2022 Commonwealth Games against Australia at Edgbaston on Sunday. Taniyaa was struck by a ball on the back of her head while taking wickets after the ball deflected off her glove during the bowling of India in the first game.”Wicket-keeper Yastika Bhatia is the replacement for concussion for Taniyaa Bhatia, who was struck by a ball on the back of her head while attempting to keep wickets in India’s bowling in the first game,” read an official announcement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their Twitter account.
It’s not the first time that India needed to provide an alternative to concussion for Taniyaa.In the last match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Taniyaa had to retire injured in the 2nd over after being hit on the helmet when performing a sweep against the left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen.At the time, teenage Richa Ghosh served as her replacement for her concussion.
