Danny Trejo to star in “1521” historical action film from the Philippines.

Los Angeles, Aug 6 : Hollywood actor Danny Trejo has been selected to play the part of Portuguese explorationist Ferdinand Magellan in ‘1521’ the upcoming historical epic that chronicles the pre-colonial period of the Philippines which depicts the Battle of Mactan.
According to Variety Produced by the Filipino-American filmmaker Francis B.Lara Ho of Inspire Studios, ‘1521 is an U.S.-Philippines production that chronicles the travels of Magellan who was the leader of the Spanish expedition and was one of the first Europeans to travel to Asia.He arrived in the archipelago which is now known as Philippines on the 16th of March 1521.

The script of “1521” was written by Mary Krell-Oishi.Principal filming is scheduled to begin in the month of April in Palawan.

The actor who will join Trejo in the group with him is Michael Copon.He will portray the part of Datu Lapu-lapu the island’s ruler and the leader of the soldiers who fought off Magellan’s attempt to establish a colony of the Philippine archipelago.Magellan’s forces were defeated , and the Portuguese explorer was killed in the Battle of Mactan on April 27, 1521.

Complicating the historical romance between Magellan and Copon is the forbidden love affair between the native Mactan princess Diwata, portrayed by Filipino actress Bea Alonzo, and a Spanish soldier and Magellan’s translator Enrique who is which is played by Hector David Jr.Filipino actress Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan will play Ahmani who is the sister of Diwata.

Alonso was previously recognized as an Talent to watch by Variety and the Internationals Film Festival & Awards Macao in 2019.

She is also scheduled to play in WWII story “Angel Warrior,” as an actress whose near-death experience makes her an intense underground fighter described as a’she is a devil’.
