Washington, December 31, : , The President of the United States Joe Biden called Vladimir Putin over phone during the heightened tensions surrounding Ukraine.According to Jen Psaki, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s statement on the telephone call, Biden urged Russia Thursday to “de-escalate tensions avec Ukraine” and stated that it was clear the US will respond decisively to any Russian invasion of Ukraine.
According to the statement, the US President voiced support for diplomacy.This will begin in the early part of next year at NATO’s Strategic Stability Dialogue through the NATO Russia Council and at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
Biden stated that any substantive progress in the dialogues cannot occur in an atmosphere of de-escalation. “The statement also added that there was an “escalation”.
The phone conversation on Thursday was Biden’s second with Putin since December.According to Xinhua, the videoconference between Putin and Biden ended on December 7, with a promise to resume diplomatic talks.
