Bank accounts of Missionaries of Charity are frozen by the central government

Kolkata, December 27, : , In an important development, the central government has stopped all bank accounts of Missionaries of Charity, a non-profit organization Mother Teresa founded to aid the poor.
On Sunday night, the central authorities ordered that all bank transactions across India be stopped.

This left 22,000 people and patients without food and treatment.

Although Missionaries of Charity officials were not prepared to comment, Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister expressed surprise at the behavior of the central government.

“Shocked” to learn that the Union Ministry froze all bank accounts of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in India on Christmas! There are 22,000 of their patients and employees who have no food or medicine.

She wrote, “While law is supreme, humanitarian efforts cannot be compromised,” on her verified twitter account.

Surya Kanta Mishra, CPM leader, wrote via Twitter: “Yesterday was Christmas Day and the Union Ministry FROZED ALL BANCK ACCOUNTS of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity.All Indian accounts, cash and all money in their hands have been frozen by the Govt.

The 22,000 Indian patients and employees are without food or medicine.

Although the Missionaries of Charity were not willing to comment, sources close to the matter said there had been some complaints about the Missionaries of Charity and that the central government was monitoring some of the bank accounts.

To continue the investigation, the central government frozen all accounts belonging to the organization.
