Huelva, Spain (Dec 13), : .Kidambi Srikanth, an Ace Indian shuttler began his 2021 BWF World Championships campaign by beating Pablo Abian from Spain.This was on Sunday’s opening day.India’s Lakshya S advanced to round two after receiving a walkover by Max Weisskirchen, Germany.Srikanth, 28, defeated Abian 21-12 and 21-16 in round one of the men’s singles clash.The match lasted 36 minutes.
As his opponent could not match his speed, the Indian took a 11-2 advantage at the switchover.Srikanth defeated the home player with 21-12.
Although the Spaniard started the second round with a strong start, Srikanth was able to recover his momentum and led Srikanth into the intermission at 11-7.The Indian shuttler won the second round 21-16 after the break.
Srikanth will face Li Shi Feng from China in the second round.He defeated Timothy Lam (USA) 21-6, 21-10.
In the first round, Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy of India lost the men’s doubles match against Joel Elpe of Denmark.To make it out of the tournament, they lost 16-21-15-21 in a 32 minute clash.
Earlier in the day, the women’s doubles pair of Pooja Dandu and Sanjana Santosh retired after losing the first game 12-21 to the Dutch duo of Alyssa Tirtosentono and Imke van der Aar.
Meanwhile, reigning champion PV Sindhu will open her campaign against Martina Repiska of Slovakia.
