After beating Bengaluru FC, FC Goa’s head coach Ferrando lauds the team’s spirit

Fatorda (12 Dec 2012) FC Goa coach Juan Ferrando was highly praised by his team’s spirit and character following Saturday’s second victory in the same series of games despite being numerically behind for most of the match.
“I thought the team did a good job in the first half. This was an excellent performance. There were many opportunities.

Positional defense and attack were more effective than they were in the first. It was difficult for the team after 1-1.Ferrando stated that the team did not have confidence at half-time.

The team found themselves in an extremely difficult situation after the red card.

They changed the score due to the team spirit, their character was excellent. This case was a great example of how I felt for the players.

Not only the starters but all the replacements. They were a huge support to the team.

After 2-1, our team paid a lot more attention to defence and worked extremely well.In the end we received three points. This is a great achievement.

After the Blues’ win, the mood was raucous in FC Goa.Ferrando felt that there were many areas for improvement, particularly in transition.

We need to do better in transitions.Football is all about transitions. It’s important that you control transitions in football because our game is based on attacking football.”Sometimes we make mistakes,” said the Spanish coach.

We make mistakes when we don’t focus on the immediate media or the timing of second-phase press releases.

“These are th’ problems. It’s not so easy because even in the highest levels of football and even in the Champions Leagues, these problems exist in teams.”

The game saw the Gaurs concede yet again from a set-piece situation.Whilst one can point fingers regarding the legitimacy of the free-kick awarded to Bengaluru, one can have no arguments that the Gaurs could have dealt with the situation much better, especially from the goalkeeping point of view.

Ferrando, though, reasserted his confidence in Dheeraj Singh and the other members of his squad at the post-match press conference.

“Today, one moment was difficult for Dheeraj, but we support him.I trust 100% in him – also in Naveen (Kumar) and Hrithik (Tiwari). For me, I am not wo”ried about Dheeraj,” stated the gaffer.

“He is 21 years old.He is a future keeper of the Indian national team.He will continue to have more chances and continue to work.”
