Kanpur, 23 Nov : , Indian batchet Cheteshwar Pujara backed Ajinkya Rahane on Tuesday, saying the substitute skipper was a brilliant cricketer who is only one wicket away from getting his rhythm right again.Pujara has had an average year as a batsman by his standards.
He will serve as Rahane’s replacement in this first match against World Test champions, on November 25, here.
Rahane averaged barely over 19 points in the 11 Tests and will look to get back on track.
When Pujara was asked about the teammate’s tough times, he said that Rahane was a good player.These are periods that a player may go through.He’s just one innings away to getting his rhythm back.He’ll get some good runs during the series.”
The 33-year old Mumbai batsman has been playing 40 Tests since 2019, scoring seven half-centuries, and three tons.
In Kanpur’s first Test, Rahane will lead the Indian team.Virat Kohli returns for the second.
Rahul Dravid, the newly appointed head coach, will be joining him in the locker room.
