New Delhi, November 20, : , The United States has expressed concern about Peng Shuai of China, a tennis player who was accused of sexual assault against top Communist Party officials.According to the report, China was urged by the White House to provide “independent, verifiable evidence” that Peng is safe and whereabouts.
Two weeks ago, the 35-year old doubles Grand Slam champion accused China’s former vice-premier sexual assault.
Women’s tennis has threatened to cancel events in China.
Steve Simon, Chairman of WTA, told BBC that competitions will not be held in China next year unless Peng is proven safe.
We cannot accept compromises.
He said that this is an issue of right and wrong.
WTA was told Peng is safe by Chinese Tennis Association in Beijing.Simon denied that this is the case.
Separately, Peng posted three photographs on WeChat Friday under her name and the caption “Happy Weekend”.
BBC reports that the authenticity of the message on Chinese instant messaging was doubted.
Simon made doubts about the authenticity of an email that Ms Peng was credited with earlier this week by Chinese state media.
Since posting the allegation against former Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli, a Chinese social media platform Weibo posted on 2 November about the former number-one-ranked doubles player, the former player hasn’t been seen publicly.
According to the report, she claimed that she was forced into having sexual relations between Mr Zhang and her.He served as vice-premier of the country from 2013-2018.
