Tirupati (Nov 18) : .Heavy rains in Tirupati caused havoc on Thursday.
They inundated low-lying regions, disrupted vehicular traffic, and plunged the temple town into complete darkness.Pilgrims were faced with severe difficulties due to the downpour.
Authorities had to close the roads to Sri Venkateswara temple at Tirumala because of the landslides.
After rainwater entered a substation, there was no electricity in the area since 3:00 p.m.
Due to the incessant rainfalls, roads in many key locations of the city became a cesspool because of flooding from the northeast monsoon.This is active in Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh as well as the adjacent coastal districts in Tamil Nadu.
In areas such as Gandhi Road and Tilak Roads, AIR Bypass Roads, Lakshmipuram Leela Mahal, West Church Railway Under Bridge, Leela Mahal, and Tilak Roads, vehicular traffic was stopped.
Some residents also suffered severe hardships when their homes were submerged.
The water was pouring down the hills from Tirumala Temple, flooding Alipiri’s footpath.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, which oversees the operations of this famous temple’s affairs, has already closed Alipiri as well as Srivarimettlu due to heavy rains.
The Vaikuntam Queue Complex at Tirumala was also affected by the rains.The cellar was inundated by water.TTD Additional Executive Dharma Reddy’s home was also submerged.
Renigunta Airport also was inundated.Authorities had to divert flights.
The Hyderabad-Tirupati Indigo flight was diverted from Hyderabad to Bengaluru.SpiceJet and Hyderabad-Tirupati India flights were diverted to Bengaluru.
Heavy rainfall was also recorded in other parts of Chittoor District.District residents were plagued by overflowing rivers, streams, lakes, and reservoirs.
All educational institutions within Chittoor District have been declared on Friday by the authorities.
YS Jagan Mohanreddy, the Chief Minister of India has ordered the authorities to be vigilant and take the necessary precautions in case heavy rains occur.
The Chief Minister instructed the officials, during a video conference with Nellore and Chittoor district collectors to discuss the heavy rains situation.He also directed them to increase relief efforts and to take the appropriate actions by regularly monitoring water bodies, reservoirs, and ponds.
