New Delhi, November 18 : , India ranks among the top countries for quitting smoking with a rate of less than 20% for men, according to a new study.
International Commission to Reignite Smoking has examined trends in tobacco usage, issues to quitting efforts, the emergence technological innovations, physicians’ roles, the functions of doctors, industry and economic regulation policy and the lessons learned from the Covid-19 epidemic.

According to the study, tobacco use in India was three times greater among women than men.India has some of the highest rates in smoking and oral cancer.India has the lowest rate of quitting smoking.

A total of 54% of points of sale did not have any visible warnings; 90% of display items were other than candy, sweets, toys and similar products marketed to children.

It also suggested best practices for combating misinformation, building a healthier information climate to reduce tobacco harm.The recommendation included risk-proportionate regulations to make it easier to quit smoking and switch to non-combustible products.

The study also seeks to encourage the expansion of tobacco harm reduction products for low-to middle-income countries.
