Bengaluru : , Nov 18, 2018 – Pulitzer Prize Winner Dr Siddharth Mokherjee believes it’s necessary to give special sector status for health infrastructure, food and biotechnology as well as medical sciences.He addressed the plenary at the “Bengaluru Tech Summit-2021” on Thursday.
He stated that technology should be affordable and easy to use.
It is no joke to build an entire nation.He said that the progress of any nation can be measured through its discoveries and research activities.
Dr Mukherjee stated that India has been making rapid progress in information science and technology, but that it was unfortunate for people to not be able to pay the high costs of treatment of cancer even though the number of those suffering from the disease is increasing.”
According to him, it’s not feasible for every Indian family to travel to the USA or Germany for treatment of cancer.Investors need to shift their mindset.
He stated that gene editing, immunotherapy and gene therapy are all gaining ground in the treatment and prevention of cancer.They have proven to be effective for treating cancer patients, including children with myeloma and lymphoma.
Dr.Mukherjee stated that the health sector must be treated as a part of nation building.
To improve the health sector, he suggested that India establish a commission to study the American model and receive the recommendations within six-eight month.To speed up the process, the government could offer land and tax-free funds.
Although new treatments have been developed to combat cancer, they are still not being recognized.China, he said, could be a success.India could also succeed.
Dr Mukherjee stated that he has invested heavily in affordable cancer treatment and that he had created nine businesses.
Vor, one of these companies had created a medicine for thalassemia that uses gene-editing technology.
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (chairman of vision group biotechnology, government of Karnataka) moderated the discussion.
