Thiruvananthapuram : , Nov 12, 2018: A social media expert who launched Freebits.app, a decentralised, blockchain-powered social network platform, has stated that there is an international social media censorship crisis.

He said that the global social media censorship crisis is real.Speaking at an international seminar here on Friday, Shiva Kintali, an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, said social media platforms controlled by technology companies are becoming spaces of censorship and control.

Shiva Kintali, a graduate of IIT Kharagpur said that the technology companies control social media sites and are imposing censorship on them.
“There is a social media censorship crisis across the world.
There is an international social media censorship crisis.The world is facing a crisis in social media censorship.
Journalists, politicians, global leaders, creators and even satire accounts are getting de-platformed.Global leaders, journalists, and creators are being de-platformed.
Reporters, political leaders, creators, and even satire account owners are all being removed from social media.A couple of technology companies are controlling the global social media communications and censoring, shadow banning and de-platforming opinions without any transparency,” said Kintali.Kintali stated that a few technology companies control the social media networks worldwide and are censoring, shadow banning, and de-platforming opinions with no transparency.”Kintali said that two technology companies have taken control of global social media communications.They are deplatforming opinion without transparency and shadow banning them.
He said that democracy is impossible without freedom of speech, cross-pollination of ideas and a common understanding of what is true and what is false.

“Freebits is a new social networking platform built on blockchain technologies and is a radically new kind of social media, which has built-in support for decentralised identity, Metaverse integration, AI-powered news aggregation, tamper proof photos, videos, credentials and many more,” added Kintali, who before launching his own business, was a faculty in the Computer Science department, Princeton University.Kintali was previously a professor at Princeton University’s Computer Science department before starting his business.
Kintali said that Freebits, a social network platform built on blockchain technology, is a radical new type of social media.He was an instructor in Princeton University’s Computer Science Department before setting up his own company.
