By Archana Sharma Jaipur 22 August : More than 30 lakh people and more than 2 lakh teams are signed up to participate in the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympics to be held in Rajasthan from August 29 through October 5 The state government announced on Monday.
In addressing the media at the launch of the logo and the anthem for the event the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot stated: “For the first time that we have seen, up to 30 lakh people all over the state will compete in various sporting events, regardless of their age.”
According to Gehlot According to Gehlot Rural Olympics will prove to be the largest sporting event of its kind to be held by any state.
The Games will include six different sports disciplinestennis ball, kabaddi cricket hockey, volleyball shooting volleyball, kho-kho and kabaddi — which will play at the level of the gram panchayat.
The event is designed to attract talented athletes from the village and motivate them to leave their mark on the global map,” he added.
The Sports Minister, Ashok Chandna described the event the biggest gathering in the world.
“Around 30 lakh participants have signed up to participate in this competition.In the Covid pandemic, children got obsessed with online games but with this event, we’ll ensure that they are on the playgrounds with their parents” Chandra said, saying that the “Hit and Fit Rajasthan” slogan, which was coined by Gehlot will be realized with the Rural Plympics.
State sports council chief and Congress MLA Krishna Poonia said: “When the children watch their parents playing on the field, they will be able to follow them and become interested in games.”
