Bengaluru 19th August : Disposable media such as USBs or pen drives continue to be a significant security risk for a variety of industries .This year 52 percent of cyber-attacks were specifically designed to work with removable media as opposed to 32 percent in 2021 according to a report released on Friday.
The report states that threats that were designed to create remote access capability remained constant at 51 percent, while the percentage of threats specifically designed to attack industrial control systems grew little year-over-year.

However the malware was than capable of creating disruptions to industrial control systems increasing to 81 percent in comparison to 79 per cent in the prior year as per the 2022 Honeywell Industrial Cybersecurity USB Threat Report.’

“Adversaries are actively leveraging removable media as a first attack strategy for establishing remote connectivity to to exfiltrate data and establish command and controlling,” explained Jeff Zindel general manager and vice president, Honeywell Connected Enterprise Cybersecurity.

“It’s now evident that USB removable media are being used to infiltrate industrial and OT environments, and that companies need to adopt formal protocols to guard against this kind of danger to avoid expensive disruptions” he added.

Together with USB attacks The research also revealed the fact that Trojans remain a major threat due to of their ability to cause serious interruption to the infrastructure of industrial, which accounts for 76% of the malware identified.
