Tragic Train Collision Claims Lives in Andhra Pradesh, 12 dead

A train collision in Andhra Pradesh between Kantakapalli and Alamanda has left 12 passengers dead and 50 injured.

The incident occurred when a passenger train overshot a red signal and collided with a stationary train.

Rescue efforts are underway, and the injured are receiving medical attention.Sources said the toll could rise and the number of injured could be around 100, as many of them were trapped in the derailed coaches.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy have expressed condolences and directed relief measures.The Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the deceaseds families and Rs 2 lakh for the injured from the state, with Rs 2 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively for those from other states.

Railway Minister Aswini Vaishnav and Union Minister Aswini Vaishnaw are closely monitoring the situation.The Prime Ministers Office has confirmed an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the PMs National Relief Fund.
