Rajat Bhargava, special general secretary, excise department, said there was no adulterated liquor in the state.Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Vijayawada on Sunday, Rajat Bhargava said that during the last government regime, only 90,000 liquor samples were tested every year.

But in the current government we are testing 1.50 lakh samples every year for two years.He said samples of liquor brands sold in the state were being tested in five regional laboratories from time to time and only those up to the required standards were allowed to be sold in the market.

There was no sale of adulterated liquor in Jangareddy Gudem.Medical examination reports also made it clear that none of the dead there had died from adulterated alcohol.

Rajat Bhargava said not a single new distillery has been sanctioned in the state after 2018.He said distilleries currently making liquor brands were allowed in 2018 under the previous government.

He said the government is taking strict measures to curb manufacturing of illicit alcohol.He warned that legal action would be taken against those who deliberately misrepresented the government to mislead the public.

He said the present government was working towards the goal of discouraging alcoholism in the state.That is why the government had removed 43,000 belt shops and revoked 4,380 permit room permits.

Special Enforcement Bureau (Seb) Commissioner Vineet Brijlal said the state was cracking down on illicit liquor sales.Therefore, we are using special teams to carry out extensive inspections and raids in agency areas and remote areas as well.

He said a special operation was carried out using drone cameras, geo-tagging and other technology.
