Considering the increase of violence against women in the country, the Telangana state government has decided to strengthen Sakhi Centres further.

Telangana ST, Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod said the government is going to implement an action plan strengthening Sakhi network after Dasara.

Participating in a review meeting on Monday, the Minister has said the government appoints a Women and Child welfare officer at each Sakhi centre that are operated by NGOs to make them accountable.

Besides, to provide proper counselling to the victims at the respective centres, the government has also decided to appoint retired government officials and eminent advocates.

Also, considering the complaints of the private run facilities, girls from privately operated houses will be shifted to Kasturba Gandhi girl’s schools and state-owned residential schools, said the Minister.

Apart from that, the government will also incorporate ten shelter homes for orphaned boys in ten districts of Telangana.

Of late, she informed that admissions to residential polytechnic colleges for the current year have fulfilled and the admitted candidates will be allowed into the respective residential colleges by the end of October.
