BRS Medak MP K Prabhakar Reddy endured a distressing encounter on Monday, 30 October, when he was allegedly attacked by an individual claiming to be a reporter from a YouTube channel in Surampally village, Daulatabad mandal, Siddipet district.This incident has drawn a concerned response from party leader and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for all members of the Telangana community, including intellectuals and citizens, to unequivocally denounce this attack on the candidate.
Prabhakar Reddy, who is vying for the Dubbaka Assembly constituency against incumbent BJP MLA M Raghundhan Rao, was engaged in a door-to-door campaign in Surampally at the time.
Upon exiting a residence after meeting with a pastor, Reddy was approached by Gatani Raju, a 40-year-old individual purporting to be a reporter, who extended a handshake before unexpectedly brandishing a knife, resulting in Reddy sustaining stab wounds to his abdomen.
Reddy’s supporters swiftly transported him to a hospital in Gajwel, and subsequently to a corporate hospital in Secunderabad, where his condition is reported to be stable.
With the assistance of Reddy’s supporters, the police, who were on election campaign duty, apprehended Raju, a resident of Peddapyala village in Mirudoddi Mandal, for further inquiry.Prior to being taken into police custody, Raju was subjected to physical altercation by the supporters of the BRS candidate.
The motive behind this attack remains unknown at present.
Finance Minister T Harish Rao, en route to Narayankhed, was informed of the incident and promptly visited the Gajwel hospital to inquire about Reddy’s condition.
Rao sought updates on Reddy’s health from the attending medical staff.
This regrettable incident casts a shadow over an otherwise spirited campaign, emphasizing the need for unity and respect in the democratic process.
