New Delhi, Aug 24 : streaming media service Plex on Wednesday acknowledged an important data breach that could have compromised emails, usernames and passwords that were encrypted of its customers.
Plex is utilized by over 20 million people who stream audio, video and images.

In an email addressed to clients, the business announced that it found unusual activity in one of its databases.

“We immediately began an investigation , and it appears that a third-party had the ability to gain access to a small amount of information that included usernames, emails, and encrypted passwords” the company said.

According to The Verge, it was not specific if personal account details or the private media libraries of customers of the company have been compromised.

But, Plex told customers that “all passwords on accounts that were able to be accessed secured and hashed in conformity with the best practices”.

“We’ve already addressed the way the third-party used in order to gain access to our system and we’re currently conducting further reviews to ensure the security of all of our systems is secured to prevent further intrusions,” said Plex.

Anyone with a Plex accounts should activate 2-factor authentication to protect their accounts.
