Mumbai 17 August : Singers from the playback section Shaan and Papon have contributed their vocals to the song of the 131st edition of the Durand Cup.The song captures the love and spirit of the longest-running football tournament and the most beloved sport. Durand Cup is an annual domestic football tournament in India which is hosted by the Durand Football Tournament Society (DFTS).It was first held in 1888 in Shimla this is the oldest ever club football tournament in Asia and is the third-oldest in the world.
Speaking about the event, Shaan, who is the voice behind famous songs like ‘Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan and Dus Bahaane”, stated in an announcement “Well it’s true that the Durand Cup is something that everyone of us Indians should be extremely proud of.The Indian Army is associated with the Durand Cup, so I have been following this league closely.”
In a nostalgic way the singer said, “I’ve had the opportunity to sing the national anthem in 2019 for Bikram Ghosh, and the Durand Cup anthem and again and to be given this chance through Papon to perform it once more in 2022 for the Durand Cup is obviously a matter of pride.I’m satisfied to be a part of this song.”
When discussing the collaboration with Papon, he shared, “It’s always fun because Papon is not only an excellent musician, but also a fantastic singer as well, but also a beloved friend, a wonderful human being.We have an extremely close relationship.”
The anthem was incorporated into five languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali and Manipuri.
In announcing his joy, Papon stated “The reason for the lyrics of the Durand Cup anthem is because I had the chance of meeting with an incredible gentleman named Sir Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita.
It was mentioned in our conversations concerning the Durand Cup and we spoke about the song.It was an opportunity I received from the Army to write and record the anthem.I grabbed the anthem with both hands.”
Papon was confronted with the greatest challenge since the song needed to be made available in five different languages.
“The the football trophy of this year will travel across Kolkata to Guwahati to Imphal Three cities.I called in Shaan and then approached Rewben Mashangva (Manipuri singer) because he’s a person who is well-known and has done some amazing work in the region.So, he also agreed so that’s the way we all came in and I wrote the Durand Cup anthem.”
The 131st edition of the Indian Oil Durand Cup is being broadcast by Sports18 and streamed live on the VoOT platform.
