Sequoia India and Southeast Asia’s Surge launches the 7th batch of 15 startups

Bengaluru 22 August : Surge, which is Sequoia India and Southeast Asia’s speedy scale-up program, has began its seventh cohort.It includes 37 founders spread across 15 early stage startups.
One third of the startups have at least one female founder.A number of startups have third and second time founders.

Surge-related startups have collectively raised more than $1.7 billion in follow-on financing to this point, with over 60 per percent of businesses from the initial five cohorts raising their Series A or higher.

“We have formed partnerships with the majority of our businesses at the very beginning stages of building their businesses, with nearly half of them in preliminary launch stages at the time of the beginning of our collaborations,” said Rajan Anandan the Managing Director of Sequoia India & Southeast Asia and Surge.

We think that the dreamers, innovators, and category creators possess the capacity to alter the direction of our community and around the globe,” Anandan added.

The seventh cohort of the community comprises 281 founders from 127 companies across 16 industries.

One-third of the startups in the seventh cohort have at least one female founder according to the VC fund.

The group includes Nykaa’s former CFO of Nykaa Uber, one of Uber’s first engineers in India software engineers who contributed to the development of Apache Hive, an aerospace engineer who later became a fintech founder and engineers working on machine learning who developed conversationsal AI at Facebook.

“Surge 07 is currently in development and the founders are undergoing a rigorous 16-week hybrid program The VC fund is informed.

Former speakers and mentors in the program are Amrish Rau (Pinelabs) Ashwini Asokan (vue.ai/Mad Street Den), Binny Bansal (Flipkart), Byju Raveendran (BYJU’S), Doug Leone (Sequoia Capital), Girish Mathrubootham (Freshworks), Kunal Shah (CRED) and Nithin Kamath (Zerodha) among others.

Surge Surge combines up to $3 million of seed capital with workshops to build a company along with a global program and support from a network of extraordinary founders and mentors.
