Many names were considering for the capital and surprisingly one small town name floated into charts.According to media reports, Donakonda is in the race for new capital of residue state of Andhra Pradesh.

Donakonda is a town and a Mandal in Prakasam district, It is well connected to Bangalore, Hubli, Guntur and Secunderabad through Road and Rail.

Located on the main line that connects Rayalaseema and Karnataka to Andhra, augmented with the presence of Railway Station, connectivity by Road and the prospect of an Airport to be revived, Donakonda is a suitable location for establishing industries both big and small.

Donakonda also has an aerodrome built during the Second World War which can be made operational immediately.

Donakonda falls on the Guntur – Bengaluru railway line.It is a single line at present. As part of the package with Central government, this can be expanded. This area traditionally has links with Rayalaseema and most of the people here prefer to travel more to Kurnool for their needs rather than to Ongole. In his report to the GoM, the AP State CS also mentioned Donakonda town as the best suited place for Seemandhra capital
