Actress Sanya Malhotra will star in the upcoming Netflix film “Kathal,” playing the role of a policewoman.The movie, directed by Yashowardhan Mishra, is written by National Award-winning writer Ashok Mishra and will be available to stream from May 19.
In an exclusive interview with The Free Press Journal, Malhotra shared her thoughts on the film and her character.She explained that she was drawn to the film because of its combination of comedy, drama, romance, suspense, and a strong social message.
Additionally, she felt that her character would not only help her become a better actor but also a better person.
As an actress, Malhotra said that she seeks out roles that empower women and inspire them to be strong and capable.
She also looks for scripts that are entertaining and will resonate with audiences.
Malhotra spoke about her experience playing a police officer in the film and how meeting a female inspector helped her shape her character.
She observed that the inspector had a feminine quality that she wanted to incorporate into her performance.
In addition to her acting work, Malhotra expressed an interest in writing stories, although she felt that she was not yet ready to write a script.
Malhotra also spoke about the benefits of working in the OTT (over-the-top) space, where creators have more opportunities to experiment with different formats and styles of storytelling.

Finally, Malhotra expressed her enthusiasm for a possible sequel to her hit film “Pagglait,” saying that she often discusses the character’s future with the film’s director and feels that a follow-up would be well-received by audiences.
