Alert for rockets in Jerusalem, with residents saying there were blasts

Jerusalem 7 August : The first time in the history of Jerusalem since the start of the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip, there was also a warning of a rocket in Jerusalem on Sunday.
Based on military reports warning sirens were blaring throughout the city in the early hours of the morning, and residents have reported explosions, according to the news agency dpa.

Since Friday hundreds of rockets were fired on Israel through the Gaza Strip, according to the military.

There was a fear that the situation could get out of control further on Sunday when it is the Jewish day of mourning and fasting, Tisha B’Av.

The religious Jews mourn the loss of the two temples of the past in Jerusalem on this day.

The Islamist Hamas group who control the Gaza Strip, has called for the al-Aqsa mosque on the site , which is known to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary to be “defended and for Israeli attacks on the holy site to be stopped”.

The Noble Sanctuary, or al-Haram al-Sharif, with the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque, is the third most sacred place in Islam.For the Jews it is referred to as the Temple Mount, where both the temples that were destroyed stood.

Up until the present, Hamas had kept a low profile in the recent war with Israel.

The Israeli military launched the massive operation known as “Breaking Dawn” against the militant group Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) on Friday.

The commander in chief Taisir al-Jabari as well as others PIJ members were killed.

The group is classified as a terrorist group by the EU as well as the US.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 29 people have died since Friday, and at a minimum 253 people have been injured.

In the deceased are the deaths of six children and among the dead are four women, in addition to other PIJ members.
