They discovered that the most popular targets are five main industries that include municipalities, education health, infrastructure, healthcare and finance.

Researchers also noticed a rise in the amount of service providers who have been affected with the ransomware attack.

“Ransomware attackers remain steadfast and continue to run their businesses with long-running extortion attacks.

As cyberthreats like ransomware continue to evolve the need for effective security measures has never been more urgent,” said Parag Khurana Country Manager of Barracuda Networks India.

While attacks on municipalities grew just a bit, the study revealed that ransomware-related attacks targeting educational institutions increased by more than doubling attacks on financial and healthcare sectors tripled.

Cybercriminals often target smaller companies for access to bigger companies. Therefore, it is vital for security firms to design products that are simple to use and implement regardless of the size of the company as stated in the report.

Most ransomware attacks aren’t featured in the news but they do make headlines.

Many victims do not reveal when they are attacked as the attacks are usually complex and difficult to deal with for small businesses According to the report.
