OPPO has ‘committed’ to Europe after it stopped sales of smartphones in Germany

New Delhi, Aug 25 : Chinese smartphone maker OPPO will remain committed to European markets, despite the suspension of sales in Germany the company’s top executive for global markets has stated.
OPPO as well as its subsidiary OnePlus have stopped selling of smartwatches and smartphones in Germany following the loss of a patent suit against Finnish telecom company Nokia earlier in the month.

Nokia has accused companies of using its proprietary technology to process 5G and 4G signals without having to pay for the right to use it.Nokia obtained an injunction to stop sales in the German court.

“Our long-term commitment to both the European as well as German markets remains the same.There’s no impact on the choice of office location as well as the German office in which the European headquarters is, will continue to function just as normal,” said Billy Zhang the OPPO vice president of international sales and services.

According to TechCrunch, Realme is “closely watching the state” of Oppo’s patent challenges in Germany.

OPPO stated that it will keep working to serve its existing customers in Germany.

The company announced that it would “integrate specific resources that come from Central and Eastern Europe with those of Western Europe”.

“We are currently working with the parties involved to solve the ongoing legal issue,” a OnePlus spokesperson had stated in an announcement.

“OnePlus continues to be dedicated to the German market and will continue to run our business.While we’re at it, OnePlus users in Germany will continue to benefit from our products and services like regular software updates as well as our after-sales service like prior,” the spokesperson said.

The Europe smartphone market slowed by 11 percent (on-year) as well as 13 percent (on-quarter) in the 40 million unit range in Q2 of this year, the lowest since Q2 of 2020.

Xiaomi and OPPO both, which were hit by China lockdowns, experienced double-digit YoY drops in their respective sales, according to Counterpoint Research.

realme has continued to expand its European expansion with double digit YoY increase in Q2.
