Martin Scorsese’s film, “Killer of the Flower Moon,” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.The movie received an enthusiastic response from the audience, earning a 9-minute standing ovation.
Before the premiere, Martin Scorsese, along with Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone, walked the red carpet together.Photos and videos from the event quickly went viral on the internet.
Ramin Setoodeh, co-editor-in-chief of Variety, captured the moment and shared a video on social media.He mentioned that Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone received a 9-minute standing ovation for their performances in the film, making it the biggest and loudest response at Cannes 2023 so far.
After the standing ovation, Scorsese addressed the crowd, expressing his gratitude to the Osage people and everyone involved in the film.He also mentioned the surprise he felt while shooting in Oklahoma, as a New Yorker.
The film marks the sixth collaboration between Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese.Both of them made an epic return to Cannes, with Leonardo attending the festival in 2019 for “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” and Scorsese returning after decades since his last appearance in 1985 for “After Hours.”
“Killer of the Flower Moon” is a Western drama based on David Grann’s best-selling book from 2017.Set in the 1920s, it revolves around an FBI investigation in the Osage Nation, Oklahoma, following mysterious deaths and disappearances.
DiCaprio portrays Ernest Burkhart, the nephew of cattleman William Hale, played by Robert De Niro.
The film also features Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, and Tantoo Cardinal.Backed by Apple Original Films, the movie was made with a substantial budget of $200 million.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 6.
