Jerusalem 25th August : Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid issued a dire warning against a proposal currently under review by the US and Iran to revive the nuclear deal of 2015. “On the table now is a bad deal” Lapid told here on Wednesday, saying it would have the effect of in Tehran being able to have $100 billion available due to the the lifting of sanctions.
“This money won’t be used to build hospitals or schools. It’s a $100 billion per year that can be used to destabilize the Middle East.in the Middle East and spread terror across the globe.”
Iran will pump even more money into supporting Israel’s enemies, including the Lebanese Hezbollah militia as well as the Palestinian militant organizations Hamas as well as Islamic Jihad, dpa news agency quoted the Prime Minister as declaring.
“This money will go to those who want to murder writers and intellectuals in New York,” he stated, referring to the attack made against “The Satanic Verses” author Salman Rushdie.
US law enforcement officials are investigating the stabbing that caused Rushdie seriously injured.
“Of course it can be used to help strengthen Iran’s nuclear program,” Lapid said.
In the year 2018, the US under the presidency of the then-president Donald Trump, decided to unilaterally break away from the accord and impose new, severe sanctions.
Following this, Tehran also no longer considered itself bound by the document, and the nuclear program has been accelerated.
Under EU mediation officials from Washington and Tehran have been meeting in intervals from the time US President Joe Biden took office last year.
A possible agreement could result in the lifting of US sanctions as well as the restoration of restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program, similar to the 2015 agreement.
A compromise plan was approved by the EU in the middle of this month.Iran has sent Brussels their written response, and the US is expected to submit its response soon.
Lapid claimed that world negotiators of having a soft approach to Tehran: “The Iranians are making demands once more.Negotiators are prepared to accept concessions, once more .The nations of the West draw red lines, but however, the Iranians ignore it and the red line is moved.
“Israel isn’t against any deal.
We are not in favor of this one, as it is not a good one.Because it is not enforceable as written now.”
Lapid stated that he has recently voiced his concerns personally to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron.
“We have clarified to all that when a deal is concluded and it is not binding on Israel. We will take action to stop Iran from becoming an nuclear state. We’re not prepared to live with an imminent nuclear threat over our heads by an extremist violent Islamist regime.”
