CPM state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram has strongly condemned the increase in ticket prices on rural, city ordinary, metro express and metro deluxe RTC buses in the state and the burden on the poor and middle class. To this end he released a statement on Friday.
He demanded the immediate withdrawal of the inflated charges.
There were calls for protests everywhere against the inflated charges.
Critics say the government, which has to keep the company afloat by allocating adequate funds in the budget to bail out the RTC, is today looking to tie up RTC assets to the private sector and raise travel ticket rates.Chinjiyar Swami strongly condemned Tammineni for insulting the people by making irresponsible remarks on their beliefs, foods, castes and professions.
They immediately withdrew those comments and demanded an apology.
The ticket fare will be rounded off to the next multiple of 5 for the City-Ordinary, Sub-urban, Metro Express and Metro Deluxe buses.
With this, passengers using these buses will essentially now be paying Rs 5 more for travel mostly. This will affect lakhs of users especially in the rural areas, and also in Hyderabad who depend on bus travel every single day as a cheaper means of commuting.
The RTC is currently under severe deficit and the corporation is suffering crores of rupees of losses annual.
