IBM has announced it will ensure that IIT Madras will get cloud-based access to the most modern quantum computing systems as well as quantum expertise to research practical applications for business and society.

“This collaboration with the IBM Quantum Network marks an exciting new phase for our Centre.

It is a continuation of our successful collaboration in quantum computing education in the past, and is expected to open new possibilities and directions in research and development,” said Dr.Anil Prabhakar, Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Madras.

They will utilize IBM Quantum services alongside the Qiskit framework that is open source to study areas like quantum algorithms and quantum machine learning quantum error correction, mitigation, quantum tomography and quantum chemistry, to further develop and expand the quantum computing industry in the United States.

Researchers from IIT Madras will contribute to the advancement of research in the application of quantum computing with assistance by IBM Research India in such areas that are relevant to India.

“The collaboration opens up new opportunities to collaborate with business partners in order to speed up research, bring quantum to life and establish an exciting quantum-based ecosystem in India,” said Sandip Patel the managing director of IBM India.

IBM and IIT Madras have a long relationship in research and education such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
