By Niharika Raina New Delhi, Aug 13 : In IPL 2022, Kuldeep Yadav’s renaissance run speedier and more flamboyant with confidence while taking 21 wickets for Delhi Capitals was a very satisfying sight. Many anticipated that his stunning streak to Carry on in the Indian T20I series against South Africa in June.
However, an injury to his hand prevented him from playing in the final T20I of the series, as well as traveling to Ireland and England and also from the ODIs against West Indies. He finally got his opportunity in the fifth T20I match against the West Indies at Lauderhill, scoring three scalps in an outstanding bowling performance in which spinners took all the 10 wickets.
Former India left-arm spinner Maninder Singh believes Kuldeep’s recent excellent performances have been an enormous boost and, if the left-arm wrist spinner keeps putting in regular performance, he can be in India’s team to play in the ODI World Cup next year in the country.
“Kuldeep Yadav’s performance was beginning to drop.
However, the way he returned to the field when playing for Delhi Capitals this year, it showed that he was a hard worker.Watching a player’s facial expressions on the field as well as body language can be enough to prove that the player been working hard since returning to cricket. The impressive performance he delivered in the match for Delhi Capitals and the confidence he gained from it was evident when he was on the field in the (recent) international Cricket match (fifth T20I against West Indies).”
“I still believe he must perform consistently and should he performs consistently on the field and in the field, then he could become in the ODI World Cup which will take place in India in 2023.He offers a variety of skills since he’s a left-arm Chineseman (wrist-spin) as well as has the ability of taking wickets before he first started in international cricket. This is crucial in middle overs to reduce the rate of running of opponents,” stated Maninder in an exclusive interview with IANS organized by Sony Sports Network.
Maninder added that Kuldeep’s recent performances as massive positive, especially considering that he was out of favor due to the combination of lean body and knee injuries that he sustained while playing with Kolkata Knight Riders during the second part of IPL 2021.
“This is a huge positive for me because, to me because of the manner he was slowing down and was not dealt with properly it seemed like a bowler with talent was at risk of being lost.
Due to of this, I made two remarks in the past that should he isn’t playing T20 Cricket, it will be best for him. However, this isn’t possible and you don’t have to consider it as there is a large amount of cash is at stake, and the player requires money in life to ensure security. He has put in a lot of effort to get there, because of this, and he has had great results.”
Left-arm spin, all-rounder Axar Patel, Kuldeep’s teammate in Delhi Capitals, has been in the spotlight for his unbeaten score of 64 off just 35 balls. It was also his first half-century in ODI cricket. His exploits have earned India the second ODI, and the series against West Indies in Trinidad.
Maninder was thrilled with Patel’s recent performance in the batting department However, he would like to see more of his consistent batting performance. He was reminded of the words of an Gujarat player who was a teammate of Patel and spoke highly of Patel’s ability to bat.
“Last year I was talking with an Indian player from Gujarat who played with him.He kept praising his batting ability. If he bats, he becomes a very graceful batsman .He has also hit incredible shots that we didn’t observe before.I’ve only seen a couple of glimpses of it, but a huge score was not expected. Now I can see that he bowls with ease and has the confidence, it’s blossoming beautifully with the bat.I’d like to see more of him in the batting, if he shows consistency.”
Maninder left the field saying that there’ll be a difficulties for selectors when Patel performs consistently, particularly with Jadeja having missed matches in the past due to injury.”One thing that is easy to observe is that, as he is playing more of international Cricket, his confidence in himself is increasing and that is beneficial for the Indian team and Axar Patel. However, it is more beneficial for the Indian team since Ravindra Jadeja is injured in between and must take a break from some games, only to make his comeback. In addition, he is getting older.
“In the case of Axar Patel with the batsmanship he displayed against the West Indies and the exploits he did when he was in the West Indies, in the event that he continues to do it consistently it will be a great.
He could be a problem for selectors, as Jadeja has been a great performer. However, this competition is beneficial for any team, as an experienced player like Jadeja who can see on his shoulders that someone else is waiting to be a part of the team and he will work harder which is ideal for all teams,” stated Maninder prior to the start of the match against Zimbabwe that will be telecast on Sony Sports Network from August 18 to 22.
