On Thursday, the Punjab and Haryana High court has passed an order to all schools in Punjab which states that schools can charge only tuition fees but not any additional charges.

That too, if the online classes have conducted in the lockdown period.

The order came as the central government set loose some restrictions during Unlock 5 in which schools permitted to open from October 15 based on State’s or UT’s concern.

Also, the judges held that teachers and staff should be paid their regular salaries based on the procedures before the imposition of the first lockdown. The rule applies to all the permanent and contractual faculty and staff also.

Earlier, single bench Justice Nirmaljit Kaur has passed an order which allowed private schools to collect fees even though they were not offering online classes during the lockdown period.Several parents and Punjab Government has filed petitions stating the order from the judge as ‘unfair’.

The recent order is announced considering the petitions filed the respective parents and the government.
