Ahmedabad 17 August : Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Wednesday honored the athletes from the state who took home medals at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with the Khel Pratibha Award. Harmit Desai, who took home the gold medal in the table tennis team event was awarded 35 lakh rupees; Bhavina Patel the gold medalist in para table tennis ‘ singles competition was awarded Rs 25 lakh, while bronze medallist in the para-athlete event Sonal Patel was presented a check of 10 lakh.
The Chief Minister handed out five lakh rupees each to Yasmika Bhatia and Radha Yadav who are participants of the women’s cricket team who took home the silver trophy.
In his remarks, Patel said the state government would provide all assistance to athletes to enable them to excel at an international level with the latest training methods, incentive programs, and all the facilities required.
Minister of State for Sports, Harsh Sanghvi, said that the state government has increased its budget for sports to ensure the athletes continue to be inspired and help to make Gujarat an elite state in every discipline of sports.
