San Francisco, Aug 12 : Google has received approval from the Federal Election Commission (FEC) in the US to prevent political campaign emails from being flagged as spam.Google has now allowed political party committees and political candidates to apply for its program which will allow their messages to be exempt from Gmail’s spam detection system The Verge.
“I am having a hard to get around the fact that this is a special benefit that is only available to political committees as well as only to political committees.” FEC commissioner Ellen L.Weintraub is in the report.in the report.
Google had approached the FEC in June to let an app that could prevent campaigns from ending up in the spam folders.
The first report was made by Axios Google’s pilot program will be available to “authorised candidate committees as well as political party committees and political action committees of the leadership registered with the FEC.”
The program was announced following Google was heavily criticized that its algorithms discriminate against the content of conservatives across its various services.It also filters Republican email campaigns and fundraising to prevent them from being viewed as spam.
“Our goal in this pilot program is look at various methods of dealing with the concerns of bulk senderswhile also providing users a clear control over their inboxes, so that they can minimize unwanted emails,” a Google spokesperson told The Verge.
“We will continue to review feedback from the pilot as it is launched to ensure that it is in line with its objectives,” said the company.
The former US President Donald Trump’s presidential campaigns were criticized for using shady techniques in their fundraising emails.
