Melbourne, 26 December : .Cricket Australia’s chief executive Nick Hockley declined to discuss whether Justin Langer, the chief coach, will be granted a contract extension after his month-long series in Pakistan.
However, he said that Langer, a former player, will continue serving out his term.While Australia recently won their maiden ICC T20 World Cup title in the UAE and look set to retain the Ashes under the former distinguished player-turned-coach’s tenure, Langer hasn’t enjoyed the best of relationships with the players, with things coming to a head after the T20I series loss to Bangladesh in August.
Cricket Australia called for a crisis meeting with the senior players and management to resolve the situation.CA issued a statement supporting the opener, and reiterated the importance of The Ashes and the ICC T20 World Cup to his long-term success.
Hockley was however non-committal on Langer’s fate Sunday.
Hockley stated that JL and the entire square were doing an excellent job ahead of Sunday’s Boxing Day Test.
We’ve already seen this through our performances in the Tests.”We always stated that we would be very focused on two campaigns — the T20 World Cup, the T20 team won the trophy, and the Ashes.I know JL and I know the team.They are very, very focused,” Hockley said to Foxsports.com.au.
Hockley added, “Whatever we have stated, before the Summer, we’ll sit down at the End of the Season to review what we did from there.”
Hockley refused to discuss whether CA might like to reduce the workload on Langer who is coach for all three formats.
“As you said, it’s something that we will look into towards the end.Hockley stated that Justin is certain to see his contract through until the middle next year.
Langer indicated recently that he was seeking a contract extension and said that he loved his job.
To be truthful, I have not thought otherwise.For the past four years, I’ve been faithful to what I said.Langer stated that she loves her job and added, “The boys play well.It’s an excellent team.From my perspective, nothing has changed.”
