The majority of the party’s leaders believe they believe Rahul Gandhi should assume the role as the party’s president but there isn’t any information from Rahul Gandhi since he quit the post after the shambles of the poll in 2019.
Additionally the Congress, in interim, is working out a plans B to keep Sonia Gandhi as party president and choose a working president to each zone, a plan that was discussed a while ago.Another name that is being discussed is one of Sonia who is a loyal Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. He has been reported to have rejected the top job and claimed that Rahul Gandhi should be the next to take over as the party’s president.
The Congress schedule was to begin the process on August 21st, however the CWC meeting hasn’t been scheduled yet. Some leaders from the scheduled castes who may be offered the top job are Sushil Kumar Shinde, Mallikarjun Kharge and Meira Kumar.Kharge is Rahul Gandhi’s trusted confidante and could be a key player in Karnataka elections.
However, sources say that former party president Rahul Gandhi has scheduled an array of talks with the state unit.
He will also be visiting each district in the country in the lead-up to general elections. The plan is yet be finalized.
Rahul Gandhi’s insisting that a non-Gandhi take over the post has put the Congress in the middle of a crisis. Some of his closest friends have tried to convince him to accept the position.
The Congress Working Committee members have repeatedly pleaded with Rahul Gandhi to assume the role as President of the party however he has been reticent. The senior Congress leader Ambika Soni said: “All the members were in agreement in their belief that Rahul Gandhi should assume the role as the president of the Congress party.” The CWC has given its approval for the internal elections of the party.
The CWC had approved the elections for the organisation and the date was set.
The selection of the PCC President Treasurer, Vice-President, Treasurer as well as PCC Executive and AICC Members by the PCC general body was originally scheduled to be completed on August 20.
The election of the AICC president is scheduled to take place between August 21 between September 20 and August 21.
