London 11 August : London, Aug 11 : with greater levels of harmful cholesterol or fats that are often linked to heart disease tend to suffer persistent symptoms of both non-Covid and Covid disease in the study which has not been peer-reviewed yet.The research is drawn from data collected by the ZOE Health Study app by King’s College London.The researchers analyzed blood markers from 4787 individuals and the results were compared with those who live in the community which is which is where most of patients with Covid are treated.
The blood-borne markers in patients who were not suffering showed an improved pattern, which is connected with less chance of heart attacks and diabetic.
The patients with chronic symptoms had higher levels of “bad cholesterol” as well as unhealthy fatty acids the researchers said.
The study also revealed that patients with Covid symptoms that lasted longer than 28 days were not discerned from those with non-Covid-related illnesses of longer duration.
Both were found to have a range of substances in their blood that are typically seen in patients susceptible of diabetes and heart disease.
Experts believe this could suggest that research into methods to treat different diseases could also play a part in Covid.
“We noticed a marked distinction in blood fats of those who Covid-19 symptoms but not those with chronic signs,” explained Dr.Marc Osterdahl, clinical fellow and the lead researcher at King’s.
“We were in a position to determine whether changes we observed were specific to Covid or if they were indicative of something more general to long-lasting symptoms.What’s interesting is that we found the similar pattern of harmful fats in those with chronic suffering in Covid as well as non-Covid diseases,” added Dr.Claire Steves, co-author and the lead researcher in the ZOE Health Study.
“We believe this could provide some insight into the experience of long Covid and other ailments that require people to take the time to heal from illnesses” Steves said.
