The complaint made in the US District Court for the Northern District of California claimed that Bryant “took an array of improper actions following her departure that included the unlawful taking over of the BGC website and redirecting visitors to her website which made a variety of false and misleading claims.”
Black Girls Code alleged that its domains — including blackgirlscode.com, blackgirlscode.org, blackgirlscode.site and blackgirlscode.net — all now redirect to another website named saveblackgirlscode.com.
“That website provides a memo with the specifics of Bryant’s federal lawsuit, as well as her lawyer’s contact details,” the complaint said.
Bryant established the non-profit in 2011 to provide girls of shades the chance to be part of the tech world.
In December 2021 Bryant was denied access to her email.
The board stated that she “was put on leave for administrative reasons to investigate the complaints made against her” that she denied.
Black Girls Code terminated Bryant on August 12.
“Tenplus years of starting and growing an organization to become a $40 million+ international brand that fundamentally changed direction of an industry and was subsequently thrown out without a dime of severance.Sounds like retaliation?” She tweeted her tweets last week.
Bryant has filed a federal lawsuit in which he claims an unlawful suspension.
A Black Girls Code spokesperson told TechCrunch that the group “believes the decision to remove Bryant as CEO and board member is in the best interests of the organization as well as the girls it serves as well as its employees as well as its supporters”.
The non-profit claimed that Bryant’s behavior was in violation of the laws of both states and federal law and “has caused irreparable harm to BGC’s operations and its mission in the local community”.
