Patna, Dec 30 : Bihar DGP S.K.Singhal suggested Thursday that girls marry only if their parents consent.Singhal also stated that love marriages can have more serious consequences for girls.Singhal addressed a Samastipur gathering in the cadre of Chief Minister Nitish Khur’s “Samaj Sudhar Abhiyan” (social reforms campaign).He said that girls should be able to arrange marriages with their consent and blessings.
There have been many cases in which girls made decisions about marriage, with unpleasant results.
We have witnessed cases in which girls were forced to trade their flesh for money, and some even went on love marriages that ended in death.
Singhal stated that parents are responsible for these decisions.
I appeal to parents to instill good values and help their daughters understand themselves.
Singhal said that such initiatives could help reach the end goal of social reforms.
