An arrest warrant has been issued by the Indore district court against a well-known film producer-actor Kamal Rashid Khan, also known as KRK, for not appearing in a defamation case filed against him by actor Manoj Bajpayee.Bajpayee had filed a case against Khan after he allegedly called him a drug addict in a few tweets in 2021.
Bajpayee’s lawyer, advocate Paresh Joshi, stated that the Judicial Magistrate First Class issued an arrest warrant against Khan as he did not remain present before the court, and the next hearing of the case has been scheduled for May 10.Khan had been issued bailable warrants by the court due to his failure to appear before it.
Bajpayee informed the court that Khan was aware of the case against him but was intentionally delaying his appearance.On the other hand, Khan’s lawyer requested the court to stay the action against him as he has moved to the Supreme Court.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court had dismissed Khan’s plea on December 13, 2022, seeking the quashing of the defamation case against him.Khan’s lawyers had claimed in the High Court that one of the Twitter handles, KRK box office, from which the tweet in question was posted in 2021, had been sold to one Saleem Ahmed in October 2020.They also said that Khan had never intentionally tweeted anything against Bajpayee.
The case highlights the importance of being responsible while using social media and avoiding defamatory remarks.
