The Andhra Pradesh High Court has sentenced Eluru, West Godavari District Forest Officer (DFO) Yashoda Bai to jail for two months and imposed a two thousand rupees fine under contempt of court charges.Also, the High court made it clear that if the officer fails to pay the fine, he should serve in jail for one more week.
Recently, the High court Justice Battu Devanand delivered the judgment and issued a stay on the execution of the verdict for four weeks at the request of Yashodabai.
The forest department has issued a notification on January 12 this year inviting tenders for teak and timber transportation within the Kannapuram forest range in West Godavari district.
However, among the tenders, Goli Sarath Reddy from Eluru filed the lowest tenders.On but contrary, without giving him a work order, the authorities started working with the representatives of the forest conservation committee.
Against this backdrop, Sarath Reddy has filed a petition in the High Court.Sarath Reddy has filed a contempt of court petition against Srinivasa Rao and Yashodabai.
Justice Devanand, who conducted an inquiry, found that the teak and timber transportation works were being carried out by the Forest Conservation Committee.Hence, Justice Devanand sentenced the officials to jail under contempt of court charges.
