Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, a popular Indian TV show with a large fanbase, has recently been facing controversy.Several former actors of the show have accused the makers of mistreatment and injustice.
One of the actresses, Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, made serious allegations of mental and sexual harassment against Asit Kumarr Modi, the producer of the show, as well as two others.
Jennifer filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police after waiting for over a month.
In her statement, Jennifer stated that the producer frequently forced her to drink alcohol with him.She mentioned an incident in Singapore where he insisted she drink with him when her roommate wasn’t present.
Additionally, Jennifer alleged that Modi made unwanted advances towards her and would make inappropriate comments about her appearance.She also mentioned that he would disrupt her work and find faults with her performance if she refused his requests.
Jennifer further revealed that she endured verbal abuse from Sohail Ramani, the operation head, and Jatin Bajaj, the executive producer.They would yell at her for wanting to take leaves, even during difficult times such as her father’s death and her brother being on a ventilator.
They threatened to replace her and would abuse her over the phone.She mentioned that Ramani even threatened her with consequences when she questioned his disrespectful behavior towards her as a woman.
Furthermore, they made it difficult for her to take time off and delayed her payments.
The Powai police registered an FIR against the makers of the show under sections 354 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertain to assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.The case is currently under investigation, and no arrests have been made.Asit Kumarr Modi denied all the allegations in an interview, while Jennifer expressed her desire for a public apology from the show’s makers.
