New Delhi, Sep 7 : Bharti Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal announced on Wednesday that the company plans to start 5G services within a month and by the end of December, Airtel will be able to provide coverage in major metro cities. The announcement was made in the same week that Reliance Jio plans to roll out 5G services before Diwali which falls on October 24.
Vittal stated in an announcement that, after December the company will expand quickly in order to include the entire nation.
“We anticipate covering the entire area of the urban India before the year’s end of 2023.
If you’re interested in knowing whether there is a possibility of 5G in your area you’ll be able check it via the Airtel Thanks App and see whether your mobile and city is ready for 5G.This feature will become available in the app with the launch of 5G,” he said.
Airtel 5G will offer substantially faster speeds than the 4G network. The speeds could range from 20-30 times faster than what we have today.
Vittal stated that Airtel 5G will also enable the use of different quality to meet specific needs, a process known as network cutting.
“So If you’re a gamerand would like to have a seamless experience, we’ll be able to cut the web for you.If you’re working at home and want an experience that is consistent we can provide this for you.” he noted.
Bharti Airtel last month paid the sum of 8,312.4 crore to the Department of Telecom (DoT) in order to pay dues for 5G spectrum it purchased in the just concluded auctions for 5G.It claimed that it given four years of 5G spectrum in 2022.
According to Vittal, Airtel has chosen the 5G technology specifically for smartphones, which has the most extensive range of ecosystems in the world.
“This signifies that all 5G phones in India will be able to work using the Airtel network without a glitch. This is true even if you travel overseas with your Airtel 5G-enabled phone. With other technology, it’s possible that four out of 10 5G phones do not allow 5G.” he said.
In addition, to create an all-India 5G network, Jio has committed a total investment of 2 lakh crore rupees.
To start with, Jio announced the launch of 5G services in four metro cities namely Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
Like 4G and 3G the telcos will soon unveil dedicated 5G tariff plans .according to experts in the field, consumers could pay more for 5G services on their phones.
However, the plans for tariffs will be reduced as usage grows, and more people will be embracing 5G networks, particularly in cities in which the first demand is expected to be.
A quick war on tariffs with the introduction of 5G is not likely however, 5G “will be competitive, as India remains a price-conscious country”.
