By Venkatachari Jagannathan Chennai, Dec 5, : Srinivasagopalan Rangarajan, a former table tennis champion and Indian Institute of Technology–Madras (IITM), graduate, has worked for three decades to get his company Data Patterns (India), Ltd., which boasts prestige projects such as the BrahMos missile program, to the point of inflexion.
Rangarajan, 63, Chairman and Managing director, told IANS that the company has an order book position of Rs 588 crore. This is a pivot point for the country’s defense, aerospace, and other strategic sectors.
The about Rs 224 crore turnover Data Patterns is a defence and aerospace electronics company that designs and manufactures radars, underwater electronics/communications/ other systems, electronic warfare suite, small satellites and others.
“We have made small satellites and we are looking at the defense satellite sector.
India has a great need for small defense satellites. There is a demand for small satellites.Rangarajan stated that the Indian space sector is being open which bodes well for companies such as ours.”
Other than small satellites, the Indian space agency’s deep-space mission, ground stations and other projects offer great business opportunities for equipment manufacturers.
Data Patterns was responsible for the design and development of the second launch pad countdown system to deliver the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) rockets.
Rangarajan is assisted by his wife, Whole Time Director Rekha Murthy Rangarajan.
It is not wrong to call them a missile firing couple.Data Patterns supplies the launch and fire control systems for the Brahmos missile program.
“The business was founded way back with his provident money of around Rs 11,000,” Rekha Murthy Rangarajan said.Rekha Murthy Rangearajan, a Rekha Murthy Rangarajan employee, told IANS that he had previously worked in a private firm.
The company serves the country’s strategic areas – defense (air force, navy, and army), and aerospace-Indian space industry -since the early 1990s.It plans to expand its product line to other countries.
Rangarajan, a former champion of Tamil Nadu table tennis and representative of the state at the nationals, holds a Master’s degree in Science from the IITM as well as a Bachelor’s degree of Technology in Chemical Engineering, both from the Faculty of Technology, University of Madras.
“Our major product groups consist of radars, underwater electronics/communications/ other systems, electronic warfare suite, BrahMos programme, avionics, small satellites, commercial off the shelf products and others,” Rangarajan said.
“We are a vertically integrated provider of aerospace and defence electronics solutions. He said that we provide end-to-end electronics products for strategic industries.
Rangarajan stated that the company will bid for tenders issued to the Ministry of Defence. These tenders will be large and competitive with industry giants.
He said that the services business will be another area of focus for the company with 700+ employees.
He believes there is a structural shift occurring in the defense budget, with an increase in modernisation funds and approval of a non-relapsable fund.
The amount of the fund available to participants in the defense industry during fiscal 2022-2031 is $339 billion.
He stated that the company is currently working to get its next generation Radar Warning Receiver (‘RWR’) approved.
This could then be part of India’s light combat plane (LCA) and other upgrade programs such as SU-30 MKI.
Similar to India’s acquisition of 110 Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft, and trainer aircrafts, there are huge revenue opportunities for Indian companies such as Data Patterns.
The company that is bound for an initial public offering (IPO) will likely deliver Next Gen fully open for LCA IA and Sukhoi 30, subject to flight testing. These can be fitted to the 83 LCA MK IA after flight testing.
The flight tests will be conducted on the LCA in the next two/three month, and similar tests on Sukhoi 30 are planned later.
Rangarajan spoke out about IITM and the impact it had on him as an entrepreneur. He said that “it gave me the management and business perspective.” I was an engineer by nature and wanted to make products.
“The lectures by Professor Anantharaman gave confidence to me.He made us give lectures, which in turn increased our confidence levels,” he said.
Data Patterns will soon be on the market to raise Rs 300 Crore through a fresh issue of shares. This will allow for business expansion.
Existing shareholders will also be able to sell 60,70,675 shares.
“The market is open.New opportunities and challenges are available.Ragarajan stated that they would like to see the company grow and look at potential export markets.
