Manikrao Thakre, Congress’ Telangana incharge, announced on Saturday that the second list of candidates for the upcoming state polls will be unveiled after Dasara, around October 25, following discussions with the party’s screening committee in Delhi.
After the meeting, Thakre stated, “The second list will be released only after Dasara.
The second list is likely to be released by October 25.Talks with Left parties for alliance are going on and will be finalised soon.”
He revealed that the screening committee has already confirmed the second list of candidates and forwarded it to the AICC’s central election committee (CEC) headed by Mallikarjun Kharge, party chief.Thakre explained that the CEC will convene after Dasara to finalize the list of candidates, with its release slated for October 25.
The meeting, hosted at the residence of AICC general secretary K.C.Venugopal, saw the attendance of TPCC chief A.Revanth Reddy, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Nalgonda MP N.Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Thakre, among other prominent figures.
Thakre acknowledged the multiple contenders for several seats and revealed that the screening committee opted for face-to-face discussions with the candidates in Delhi.
This aims to forge a consensus and ensure that all contenders rally for the party’s victory once the final list is disclosed.Efforts are also underway to unveil the remaining candidates all at once.
Currently, the Congress is yet to declare candidates for 64 Assembly constituencies in Telangana.
Sources within the party have indicated that the screening committee has identified 50 candidates for the second list.
Initially slated for release on October 19, the unveiling was postponed due to Rahul Gandhi’s bus yatra in Telangana over three days.
With Rahul Gandhi’s tour concluding on Friday, Telangana Congress leaders expedited their journey to Delhi on Saturday to participate in the screening committee meeting.
As part of this strategic move, the Congress is expected to allocate Chennur and Kothagudem seats to the Communist Party of India (CPI), while Miryalaguda and Wyra will be contested by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM).
CPI’s state secretary, Koonamneni Sambashiva Rao, is slated to contest from Kothagudem, while CPI leader Regunta Chandrasekhar will vie for the Chennur seat.CPM, on the other hand, has chosen Julakanti Rangareddy and Bhukya Veerabhadram as their candidates for Miryalaguda and Wyra, respectively.
