Sukesh’s crime syndicate behind bars: EOW gets LG’s nod to probe 8 jail officials

New Delhi, Oct 11 : Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has granted permission to the Delhi Police’s Economic Offence Wing to probe the role of eight prison officials for allegedly allowing conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar to run an organised crime syndicate from Rohini Jail.

The role of the prison officials will be investigated under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption (PoC) Act.

According to officials, “The LG’s nod to probe these eight Group B officers/officials of Delhi Prisons who are already under arrest, is in addition to the permission granted last year by him to investigate the role of 81 other jail officials for facilitating Sukesh for financial gains.”

The jail officials under the EOW’s lens are Sunil Kumar, Sunder Bora (both Superintendents), Prakash Chand, Mahender Prasad Sundriyal, Subhash Batra (all Deputy Superintendent), Dharam Singh Meena, Lakshmi Dutt and Prakash Chand (all Assistant Superintendent).

They were arrested under provisions of MCOCA for facilitating the organised crime syndicate run by the conman.

Investigators have stated that Sukesh Chandrashekhar used to pay approximately Rs 1.50 crore every month for facilities like the use of mobile phones and a separate barrack.

“Chandrashekhar was operating from Barrack No.204, Ward No.3, Jail No.10, Rohini and during investigation it emerged that these eight jail officials were making his stay comfortable and ensuring privacy, so that he could use mobile phones in the jail, in lieu of pecuniary gains,” said the official.

The footage of various cameras of Rohini Jail was collected and analysed, and the duty roster of the said staff was checked.

Their phone details were analysed and information was collected on the basis of the disclosure of the accused men.

“It was found that the said staff was deployed in the Barrack of Sukesh Chandrashekhar in consultation with him so as to help him carry out his criminal activities, for pecuniary gains,” said the official.

A separate barrack was exclusively provided to Sukesh Chandrashekhar by these jail officials in gross violation of the Jail Manual, for pecuniary gains received through Assistant Superintendent Dharam Singh Meena on a regular basis.
