Kushi, the Telugu romantic comedy starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda, is heading to Netflix soon.The film, which released in theatres on September 1, will be available on the streaming platform from October 1 in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi languages.
The film is directed by Shiva Nirvana, who previously helmed Ninnu Kori and Majili.It revolves around the love story of Viplav and Aradhya, who belong to different castes and professions.
Viplav works in BSNL, while Aradhya is a corporate employee in iLabs Centre.They elope and get married against their parents’ wishes, but soon face various challenges in their relationship.
Kushi received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike.The film was praised for its performances, music and cinematography, but criticized for its predictable plot, cliched dialogues and lack of originality.
According to Sacnilk, Kushi collected Rs 35 crore in its opening weekend in India, but witnessed a sharp decline in its collections from Monday onwards.The film failed to cross the Rs 50 crore mark at the domestic box office, earning only Rs 45.87 crore in its 14-day theatrical run.
Kushi marks the last film of Samantha Ruth Prabhu before she took a break from acting to focus on her health.The actress suffers from an autoimmune condition called myositis, which causes inflammation and weakness in the muscles.She has reportedly flown to the USA for treatment.
However, she will be seen in the web series Citadel, which is produced by the Russo brothers and stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.The series is expected to release in 2024.
Kushi also marks the second collaboration between Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda after their 2018 film Mahanati, which was a biopic of legendary actress Savitri.Mahanati was a critical and commercial success, winning several awards and accolades.
Kushi, on the other hand, failed to recreate the magic of their previous film.
Kushi is one of the many Telugu films that have opted for a direct-to-digital release or a hybrid release amid the COVID-19 pandemic.The film’s makers hope that the film will find a wider audience on Netflix and generate positive word-of-mouth.
