The Telangana BJP leaders on Saturday demanded that Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj be suspended and a new official be posted in his place as he had “failed miserably” in solving serious issues related to voter lists, and addressing genuine requests of voters.
Ponna Venkata Ramana, TS Election Commission affairs committee member, in a statement, claimed that Vikas Raj’s removal was required to conduct free and fair elections.
He said the official had refused to address the issue of 36,000 alleged bogus voters added to the list in AIMIM-held Bahadurpura Assembly constituency.Ramana claimed that around 23 lakh voters are misplaced in the draft voter list, especially in Ranga Reddy, Medchal and Hyderabad districts.
Earlier on Friday, Telangana BJP urged the Election Commission, not to publish the electoral draft final list until it is corrected. In a memorandum to EC officials, BJP leaders submitted a long list of voters having the same house number alloted to different polling booths in various constituencies.
“There are several discrepancies and lapses in preparing the draft voters list ,” former Bhongir BJP MP Boora Narsiah Goud said.
