KCR humiliated BCs by allocating a few seats : Krishnaiah

Finding fault with the BRS supremo and Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao for allocating only 21 MLA seats to BCs for contesting in the upcoming Assembly elections in Telangana, the Rajya Sabha MP and National BC Welfare Association president R.Krishnaiah on Wednesday alleged that the chief minister humiliated BCs by offering more seats to upper castes in Telangana.

Krishnaiah said that when the BC associations demanded the political parties to allocate 50 per cent of seats for them to contest in elections, the ruling BRS allocated only 21 seats to them and more seats to upper castes, thus humiliating the BCs.

“The BC population is larger than others in the state and in the country. In Telangana state, the Chief Minister allocated 60 per cent seats for upper castes who are only 10 perc ent in population,” the MP said.

In the list of 115 candidates announced by the BRS on Monday, there are 39 candidates from the Reddy community.

With the BRS denying tickets to only eight sitting MLAs, there is not a big change from the number of tickets allotted to various social groups in the 2018 elections.

The BRS has given tickets to 21 candidates from Backward Classes (BCs).There are 12 candidates from Velamas, a community to which party KCR belongs.

Six Kammas have also been allotted party tickets.

There are 19 candidates from Scheduled Castes (STs), 11 from Scheduled Tribes (STs), and three from minorities.

There is one candidate each from Vysa and Brahmin communities.

The BRS will announce the candidates for the remaining four seats later.
